FOR PROVIDER ORGANIZATIONS
Opioid Stewardship Program
Designed for healthcare organizations, surgical centers, and clinical teams ready to make prevention an intentional part of their approach to care.
The program provides an eight-module educational and operational framework covering:
- Governance, leadership accountability, and stewardship infrastructure
- Standardized, evidence-based multimodal care pathways
- Patient risk stratification and pre-procedure screening
- Patient education, informed consent, and shared decision-making
- ERAS protocols and opioid-sparing clinical strategies
- Discharge planning, safe prescribing, and post-care follow-up
- Data tracking, quarterly review, and continuous quality improvement
Each module includes practical implementation tools, sample policies, downloadable resources, and operational guidance designed for real-world clinical environments.
Organizations that complete the program, implement stewardship practices, and submit two consecutive quarterly reports are eligible for listing in the Opioid Free America Registry — providing visibility to employers, health plans, and care navigation partners seeking organizations with a demonstrated commitment to stewardship.
Registry status is maintained through ongoing quarterly reporting, creating a continuing opportunity to demonstrate progress, share what is working, and strengthen stewardship efforts over time.
FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS
Provider Recognition
Designed for individual clinicians committed to prevention-first care.
Providers receive Opioid Free America Recognition by submitting documentation of opioid-sparing or opioid-free continuing medical education (CME) completed within the past year. Recognition is maintained with a minimum of three hours of relevant CME annually.
The OFA Provider Recognition designation allows clinicians to demonstrate their personal commitment to thoughtful, prevention-first pain management while reinforcing their organization’s broader stewardship efforts.

Registry participation is ongoing. Recognized organizations report their continued stewardship activities and progress, providing an ongoing demonstration that prevention remains an active part of their approach to care.
Reporting also creates an opportunity for continued improvement. Based on reported activities and progress, Opioid Free America provides relevant best practices, resources, and guidance to help organizations strengthen their stewardship efforts.
The Registry is more than recognition — it creates a visible network of organizations committed to making prevention part of everyday care.
Opioid Free America is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing opioid dependence and advancing solutions that reduce unnecessary opioid exposure. Through advocacy, awareness, and stewardship initiatives, we work to make prevention a more visible and intentional part of healthcare.
The Opioid Free America Stewardship Program provides participating organizations with frameworks, guidance, and resources to support the development of their own stewardship efforts. Opioid Free America does not provide medical care, direct clinical oversight, or evaluate individual patient outcomes. Clinical decisions remain the responsibility of participating providers and healthcare organizations.
